XperiumOS can manage adaptive streaming sessions for all popular adaptive streaming technologies including HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), Silverlight Smooth Streaming, as well as Netflix, YouTube and MPEG DASH variants.
Adaptive streaming technologies are a significant and growing component of streaming video traffic. In adaptive streaming, the client dynamically selects one of several available operating points for streaming, periodically throughout the session, based on various conditions such as network throughput and playback buffer fullness.
Using new policy actions and control mechanisms, XperiumOS actively monitors and adjusts the media parameters throughout the adaptive streaming session, reacting to the behavior of the client, to maintain a target quality level. This allows service providers to specify policy actions with a uniform QoE value that is harmonized across both adaptive and non-adaptive streaming technologies, effectively balancing network resources and media quality across all users of the network.
